So I was having a hard time getting going this morning and needed some music to help me along, but couldn't decide what I wanted to listen to, (because I can't really function at all before 7 AM) so I put the Ipod on shuffle and the treasures that greeted me today were something else. I mean we had some Mandy, Sinead O' Connor, Newsies and then Sister Act II, yes I do have some Sister Act II on my Ipod and in fact I used to own the cassette tape. Anyways, as I am sitting here at work, trying desperately to find something else to do besides study or make any large life decisions I decided to share this with you all, because it makes me happy.
Also, a shout to Megan Shirk here who left me with a VHS of this movie when she left and I am telling you it has come in handy. Remember how Lauren Hill totally got her start here? And how she hates white people? I still love you in this movie Lauren, and I always will. Here's one more just because I couldn't leave this post without it.

Flesh all amesh and rocky road...it's about desire.
Sometimes I get cravings that just don't go away.
Like the desire to watch Step Up. That one was recently satisfied.
Or the desire to eat biscuits and gravy. Still waiting for that one.
Or the desire to wear camo. This one struck almost a month ago, and still has not been adequately addressed.
But it did remind me of that one time when my dad and I went to Cabella's.
We got some funny looks. Probably they just didn't understand what he was taking pictures of, since I obviously blended in seamlessly.
But just in case...
Invisible face for extra precaution.
Also, remember how it's Columbus Day? No wonder school was such a strug today. We shouldn't have been there at all.
But apparently Columbus' big day was on October 12 on the Julian calendar, but October 21 on the Gregorian calendar, or so wikipedia tells me. I don't know the difference between the Julian and the Gregorian calendars because I don't have time to click on the links today, but I do know that since I missed today, I will have to make it up with two days off, probably October 22-23. Who's with me?

Somebody in Korea loves us...or at least reads our blog.
I've just been so entertained by Cindy's flood of posts about Korea I just haven't had time to post anything of my own. But per your request, Cindy, here is a new post to celebrate the month of October...and you.
Reasons we're for Cindy:
1. She is so great at untangling knotted masses of yarn.
2. She was one of our most faithful softball fans, even on nights when games conflicted with SYTYCD. And she wore the yarmulke I made her.
2a. And she for sure made the best signs.
3. Ford sounds like Fort.
4. Tattoos. 'Nuff said.
5. She knows who she is...and that's freedom.

The beginning of the end.
Today was my last first day of school.
Ever.I had mixed feelings.
I am kind of getting tired of taking classes all the time. Summer has been so so nice.
But I don't know what to do with myself if I'm not in school. That's all I've done for the past 19 years. What am I going to do when I'm done with this year? Get a job? Well, I guess I'll have to, because I have no intention of going back for more (ValPal, I support your PhD-ing, but I want none of it).
Several people told me to make sure I took a picture on my last first day. I did. But let me be clear about 1 thing: this picture is very inaccurate because I took it after I came home rather than before I left. 7:45am is way too early to take a back to school picture, especially when I would have to find somewhere to set it up with the self-timer. No way. Not this morning. Unless you were wanting a picture of me scowling on my way out the door. 8:00 class and I don't get along.
***Update*** Here it is! My first first day of school. Chubby knees and all.

Guess now it's official! Can't back out, can't back out.
As has been previously established, our friend Janna has a problem. Being the true friends that we are, Katie Duncan and I want to help, and we think it is will be best for her to quit cold turkey. Today we got a huge promise out of her, about which I feel great.
Today,
August 3,
in the year of our Lord 2009,
Janna Lyn Siler
promised to buy
no new coats
until
February.
This is a big deal.
Please support us in helping her keep her goal.
If she breaks her promise, she will have to give me either one coat of my choice or 3 coats of her choice for me and Duncan.
We covered all extreme hypotheticals.
If she gains 50 pounds and all of her coats are too small, we will buy her another coat.
If she loses 50 pounds and all of her coats are too big, I will turn her into an eating disorder clinic.

Obsessed
Unfortunately for some, this is not a tribute to the oh so excellent movie starring the one and only Beyoncé Knowles. That is for a different time and day and post. Although worth
talking about so we might have to come back to that...anyways, back to the topic at hand today, I have an unhealthy obsession and am realizing this more and more all the time. Everybody has their thing right? For some people it might be shoes, for others it might be movies, or books or something, but for me it is coats. I love them. I feel like during the winter time a coat can basically be your outfit. Because of this obsession I have acquired a few coats over the years and I've been trying to be good about not purchasing anymore unless there is substantial evidence that the item in question is something I need. Well, today I had a weak moment...and I bought this beauty.
I couldn't help myself. I actually found another navy coat with cute gold buttons, and considered buying both of them for about a minute and half until I found out the navy one no longer came in my size. Also, I just bought another new coat when I went to New York a couple months ago that I haven't even gotten a chance to wear yet. What I'm trying to say here is that I have a problem and the first step is admitting it right? I need help, because this "thing" of mine is expensive. I should just stick with crocheting. Maybe I could crochet myself a coat.

I kind of wish I didn't know.
Every few years I rediscover this album. It's happening again right now, and I love it.
This girl was angry in the 90s.

And then I remember how her angriest of the angry, "You Oughta Know," was about Joey Gladstone.
Weird. And so not right.
Weird. And so not right.
